Having previously chosen to sit out of this summers Euros, Chelsea captain Millie Bright announced this week that she will be hanging up her boots for the national team. After making her debut in 2016, she went on to make 88 caps for England, including stepping up as captain for injured Leah Williamson during the 2023 World Cup.

Bright becomes the next in a recent growing list of retirees from the original 2022 Euros winning side, including Fran Kirby, Rachel Daly and Mary Earps, who all announced their retirements ahead of this summers tournament, stating a time of transition for the women’s team.

For many fans, seeing the players who shaped the game we have today is bittersweet, but there is also excitement in knowing we are lucky enough to witness the young talent coming through, and that the game will only continue to grow from here.
